Museums and Parks
To get a feel of Acapulco's local history, you can also visit the city's History Museum in Fuerta de San Diego (San Diego Fort). The fort was built in 1616 century as a defense against the pirates. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the years until it was rebuilt again in 1783. It contains artifacts and other exhibits about the history of this port city from pre-Hispanic period until its independence. There are also many historic tours conducted around Acapulco which includes tours around its parks like the Papagayo Park where you can find a life-size model of a Spanish galleon (trading ship).
